Marina Capdevila’s mural is inspired by the historic thermal baths of Carballo, waters with mineral-medicinal properties that are well known since Roman times. They were rediscovered in the 18th century and restructured into a new famous and renowned health resort. It is also vox populi that this new thermal destination brought about the transformation and growth of Carballo from village to capital of the region and hence its importance as the central motif chosen by Marina.
As she usually does in murals and illustrations, the Spanish artist uses irony and humor to tell us about vitality, about the importance of staying active and lively even with eighty-something years old. With her particular carefree style, it is clear that her older ladies know how to take care of themselves and enjoy life, knowing the importance of personal care and self-delight. And what better than these medicinal waters that we have in Carballo to do it!
