The mural that Udatxo gave us ads a present in the 2022 edition of the Rexenera Fest is located in the nerve center of Carballo, at the beginning of the pedestrian Coruña street and next to the main town square where the town hall, food market and the main playground are located.
For many years, every week this Carballo’s site has been filled with life and movement with the celebration of the weekly fair, where merchants from all over the region sell their well-renowned products: vegetables, fruits, cheeses, fish, and of course it couldn’t be otherwise, bread. The famous artisan bread from Carballo, the main food of the Galician diet and essential universal sustenance throughout the centuries.
There are many neighbors who still remember the man who appears in the mural, good old Marcelino, one of the most famous and well-remembered bakers in the region. At that time, when hunger lurked and the lack of resources was common, the elderly say that Marcelino baked bread and distributed it among the people…. giving it also to those who couldn’t afford it…
