Tribute to Buño

Buño’s pottery (Malpica – A Coruña ), is one of the most ancestral and recognised Galician craftmanships. It is a key job, an emblematic symbol and the main support for most of the families of this small village in Bergantiños’ region. Marta Lapeña‘s work creates bonds with the territories where it is located and cultural components are crucial in her narratives. She combines these two facets to create synergies and then generate new works of art that act as a tool of visibilización for all this ancestral traditions. Buño’s pottery is still very much alive and it has survived because of its joined tradition and avant-garde elements. The one thing to do was to carry the artist to Buño, and afterwards Marta -presto!- did her magic.
With a loose and precise brushstroke, and a luminous saturated chromatic range -which is inspired by the embroideries and traditional pottery motives (handkerchieves, shawls and dresses)- the composition achieves a very powerful visual effect. The mural welcomes Carballo’s visitors that arrive to the village coming precisely from Buño’s road. We have to thank the EcoMuseo Forno do Forte, the craftswoman Carmen Isabel and the workshop O falsete for opening us their doors and for actively collaborating for all this to happen.
