Spell against the master
- Milu Correch (Milu Correch)
In 2018 Milu Correch tried to create this piece, Spell against the master, during the Rexenera Fest. But back then it was not possible due to the refusal of one of the owners of the building where it was going to be painted. In 2019 the Festival decided to invite the artist again in order to recover the work for Carballo. Thanks to the transfer of a space in the Fórum Carballo building by the city council, the mural is finally a reality.
The Argentine artist continues with the series of mural works that she was carrying out in 2018. In them, she plays with the idea of ??the spell, representing women as witches or healers who find solutions to contemporary problems. In this case it shows us two women casting a new spell.
Milu reminds us of the stigmatization of the figure of the witch with the intention of finally stripping her of any negative and pejorative nature. She attacks the ancient idea of ??witches supposedly possessed by the devil, that evil entity that would act as master and consequently, women would act as his servants. In this case, the spell is aimed at that dominant figure, at that master or demon that they will sacrifice and with which they will perform a new rite of liberation with their head tied to their naked bodies.
A very expressive piece in technique and precise in brushstrokes, with a play of light and contrasts reminiscent of Baroque painting, although it connects with the rest of the series of previous Milu’s spells in its peculiar desaturated palette.
