Caracola do soño mareiro
- Santi Picos (Santiago Picos Díaz)
Santi Picos’ work can be found in one of old school Leus’ rear walls, locally known as “a das pallas” which, although it has been empty for years, is full of childhood memories for many local people; it is next to Antonio Taracido’s mural and both were painted at the same time.
The mural ”Caracola do soño mareiro” is a sample of the dreamlike visual language in which Picos represents a marine landscape where different elements are made in such a way as to evoke a dream: in the foreground, a seashell is perched on a rock with the sea and an island as background
The marine scene is closely related to the relevance of the coastal spaces of Carballo, Razo and Baldaio. Both its theme and style thematic are clearly influenced by Galician surrealist artist Urbano Lugrís, despite the fact that Picos work is not as detailed as Lugrís´.
“In a certain way, the idea was a little more general at the beginning, but the objective was to highlight the beauty and importance of the Galician coast and because of its location and topic, people can link it to other Carballo Council areas, such as Razo and Baldaio. But the mural is dedicated to any maritime space as it does not depict a specific place.”
