A harmonía do contraste

Derrubando muros con pintura 2014

Together with Paula Freire, Italy´s Roberta Venanzi created the first ever “Derrubando muros con pintura” mural painting. Both artists were the project coordinators in its initial stages. Roberta moved to the rear side of the town´s old bus station, one of Carballo´s landmarks.
She initially worked on the right side of this industrial wall, where she used the trompe l´oeil window-shaped modules that separate the surface. Thus, playing with this idea of simulation, Roberta provided depth to these spaces by means of flat and cold colours (blue, green) that create green organic shapes. In this way, the artist played with the combination of geometric figures and flowing forms, where she tried to create harmony where there is no harmony at all. It is a completely abstract painting fully integrated into the environment and that is born from the observation and study of its structure. Roberta’s idea was to create a balanced situation out of a chaotic structure.
Months later, continuing the idea of creating a fictitious harmony, the author extended the work to the left wall. In this case, with the same structure as the previous one, Roberta used a range of warm and flat colors (yellow, orange, red) aimed at finding a contrast with the previous intervention, as well as representing less organic forms.
