Marija Tiurina is an illustrator from Lithuania currently residing in London. She has more than ten years of experience in the field of Commercial Art and Design and brands such as Apple, Saatchi & Saatchi, Disney, Wacom, Computer Arts or Microsoft appear on her resume. The variety of projects she works on range from advertising, to children’s print books, through games, conceptual art, online illustration… and, of course, muralism. She finds inspiration in everyday life analyzing small details of all the things that surround her, although under a particular vision, close to surrealism.

Regarding her career in urban art, she herself explains that she became interested in muralism very early in her artistic career. “Urban artists seemed like superheroes to me, because they painted on a huge scale, so I knew I had to try,” she explains in an interview during the Rexenera Fest. She confesses that she had to completely modify her technique, fundamentally watercolor, to adapt to the walls particularities. “It’s always a challenge, and you feel good at the end, when you’ve solve all the problems that come up” during the process, she says. In her approach to each mural, she tries to be inspired by the environment that surrounds her, selecting the design depending on the place, as well as the color palette.
