Emi de las Heras is a Galician painter, born in Carballo, a Fine Arts and Art History graduate who has also a PhD by the University of Vigo (The city of mirrors) as well as a Master´s Degree in Education and the Pedagogical Aptitude Course in Plastic and Visual Education.
She began her artistic career with an installation within the urban art project, Caldarte (Caldas de Reis). In addition to her solo exhibitions, she has participated in different collective exhibitions, such as the Children’s and Young People’s Book Fair in Pontevedra. However, her most important group work is with the group Creafomas that since its creation in Carballo in 2008, has had a number of exhibitions and cultural events in different places, such as Arte na Rúa or Mercarte, whilst also participating in events such as O Festiletras do Couto.
As an illustrator, she has illustrated Rosalía Fernández´s books Átonos and Contra-acción as well as Paco Souto´s poem in Cuentos de taberna.
She has alos worked on short films and a series in the Art Department. These experiences led her to work as a stage designer for the Carballo Theatre Festival (FIOT) for two years.
Cabelo e Ornamento, the pictorial series that best defines her, is based on the inexhaustible symbology of the female hair, which has been represented countless times throughout the History of Art. From the fervor of Marie Antoinette’s wigs to the importance of hair in eastern cultures, she has created a series mixing up drawing and painting, where an ornamental “horror vacui” floods the image.
As a muralist, she has participated in the project Derribando muros con pintura since 2013 with her works Saltimbanquis, In Ictu Oculi and O Sistema. In addition to this, Emi has worked for the Agrupación Cultural Alexandre Bóveda to commemorate the centenary of the Galician group Irmandades da Fala and she has developed projects (Tempo de lecer and Extraterrestresno) with young people at the CEIP Fogar de Carballo, whose aim is to highlight the importance of art in childhood and as an educational resource..
She combines her creative work with teaching in Art Schools in Galicia.
